Introduction
In 1913, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar undertook a historic journey to Columbia University, New York for Higher Studies. In grateful commemoration of this, BARTI launched “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Research Fellowship (BANRF)” in 2013. Only Scheduled Castes (SC) candidates belonging to Maharashtra, who wish to pursue regular and fulltime M. Phil and Ph.D., in any subject, from Indian Universities / Institutions / Colleges approved under UGC and foreign Universities are liable to get fellowship.
Year 2014 marked 101 years of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s historical journey to Columbia. In commemoration of this, One Hundred and One (101) M.Phil. / Ph.D. fellowships were awarded in the year 2014. The number of fellowships awarded each year would be equivalent to the number of years since 1913 i.e. 101 for 2014, 102 for 2015 and so on. BARTI is keen to support the candidates with academic excellence and methodologically sound research projects pertaining to social justice, equity, humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Engineering & Technology and related field.

The fellowships are open to Scheduled Castes (SC) post graduate candidates belonging to Maharashtra, who wish to pursue regular and fulltime M. Phil and Ph.D. degrees, in any subject, from Indian Universities / Institutions / Colleges approved under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act and in Non-Universities / Institutions.

Fellowship Project:
The Fellowship department has been functioning since 2013. A total of 886 students are availing the benefits of the Fellowship through this scholarship department. Also, out of the total students, 154 M.Phil and 153 Ph.D. A total of 307 students have completed this.
